The Myth of Mortimo

Long ago, in the land of Mortimashishi, there lived a noble king, Mortimo. Tales of his ventures across the twenty seas and wicked creatures, never before seen in your wildest nightmares, slain under his watch sailed through the lands. His devotion to Mortimishishi mirrored through its lush terrain and extraordinary people. It was known that the Mortimishishans were a lively and progressive people, always discovering and crafting new ideas regarding mathematics, medicines, music, and more. Mortimo would give his own life to protect his people. After all, nothing is meant to last forever.

One particularly sanguine evening, Mortimo and the Mortimishishans were celebrating their newfound discovery, gold. The night glittered with joy and fluttered through time as if it had wings. The Mortimishishans gifted their beloved kind the most beautiful golden crown, encrusted with brilliant rubies and elaborate angles. Mortimo, though reluctant to receive such a lavish gift, accepted.

That night, when all of Mortimashishi slept, Mortimo tossed and turned in vivid dream. His golden crown spoke to him, spewing evil thoughts; it wanted to plague his people and pillage his lands. Mortimo jumped into consciousness, immediately grasping for this evil jewel, but it was nowhere in sight. He sprang to his feet and dashed to the city square where he felt the crown’s magnetic pull. Alas Mortimo reached the city center and found to his great demise, the cursed crown had quintupled in size. Mortimo looked around him in horror. His people plagued and collapsing in the streets. He was too late he thought, this is the end of Mortimashishi, and Mortimo has failed.

There he stood, a broken king with his heart sinking through the earth, when he caught glimpse three living children! And as the virus crown neared to claim its next victims, Mortimo called to it. He swiftly and willingly, as a true and noble Mortimashishan king, stepped into the crown, grasped it with all of his might, and leapt a billion light years into the night sky. Mortimo gave his life to death itself though not in vain but in valiance. He left this world with joy in his heart, knowing that three Mortamishishans, will live another day and Mortimo, from the galaxies above, will watch over them forever.
